Here in Los Angeles, I have Margaret Merril planted on the south side where it receives sun all day. The foliage is dark green and shiny and for me it is exceedingly disease-free. It blooms profusely in an early flush, with good repeat. Its tendency to send out more stems from the same bud is just fine with me, as I am not always quick to prune off dead blooms, and find my laziness rewarded with two more stems with buds growing from the bud eyes of the previous bloom. Yes, this results in short stems, but in this location, I prefer to see the blooms rather than to gather the blooms. The scent is wonderful, and everyone comments on it. I love getting out of my car in front of the house and enjoying the lovely scent of Margaret Merril wafting to me.
