No roses lost to the winter of 2015 , despite its severity, with no special protection of any kind, all are bouncing back.
What happens when you severely prune established (10+ years) own root scotch and rugosas ? (Before you ask why would anyone do such a heinous deed, accidents , incidents happen, in my case , sever winter , ice storm , trees broken in half , a lot of chain saw action by tree cutters with no regard for roses)
The answer is that they actually bounce back with a vengeance, they were cut back to 2-3 inches above ground , the new growth is with a lot of basal shoots, and the bushes are now in a full mound shape with new growth also directly from the roots and spreading all around the initial rose.
