I ordered this rose in 2018 from Forest Farm under the name Manchu Rose. I question its identity because it blooms well before it is fully leafed out and it blooms so thickly that it resembles descriptions of hugonis more closely. Each branch of last year's growth is lined with blossoms alternating from side to side along its entire length.

Abbottsford, Melrose, the home of Sir Walter Scott in the Scottish Borderlands. July 6, 2017. The staff confirmed that this was Scotch Briar. Not in Sir Walter's garden, which was lovely, but growing in untended thickets around the parking lot.
