I bought this rose when I first started growing roses and knew nothing. It was a 'body bag' at Home Depot. I planted it on the corner of my front porch. Since there is some shade there, it took awhile for it to reach some height, but when the canes got into sunlight, they took off. Yes, it's a blackspot magnet, but so are many others in my yard. It always seems to be the first in bloom and always has some flowers. When there are many blooms my porch is filled with the honey-like scent. Mine is now 14 years old with big thick canes, but they put out 4 new canes last year. And it's still going strong.

Oh well looks like this rose won't do well in my south african climate, we gets a lot of dew at night and rain in Jan Feb.
My local nursery only had few varieties so I had little choice. I bought, cocktail, nehema, blossom magic and this is the only thing left.
Would keeping it on the smaller side help, maybe a harsh prune.
