I've been growing own-root Old Garden Roses in my New Hampshire (US) Zone 6a gardens for 40 years (that back then was Zone 4/5). I've always loved roses, but my specific interest in those introduced in the early part of the 19th century began when we bought an early 19th-century farmstead and I wanted to create period-appropriate gardens.
I held an organic certificate from 2013 to 2021 and continue to garden using organic and regenerative practices. I have learned from studies at the Arnold Arboretum, the Thompson School at UNH, Strawbery Banke and Sturbridge Village museums, the books of Rudy Favretti and the old herbals, and especially from the rosarian Malcolm Lowe of Lowe's Own Root, now deceased.
I have degrees in Music and Business and a certificate in wine studies, and am crazy about animals and old houses.
Very experienced (40 years)
