This rose is really weedy here in Jacksonville, FL (9b). It roots wherever it touches the ground and is evergreen, with dark green leaves. It may be invasive here. Once blooming and not very fragrant to my nose. Huge, vicious thorns and octopus canes that bloom once a year. Very healthy and disease resistant, drought tolerant, heat tolerant - very hard to kill. I originally planted this over a drain field in full sun, in pure sand, with no shade, and no irrigation and it still thrived. I found this rose boring and dangerous to be around so it was removed with much effort.
I love this rose. Its not fussy, blooms profusely and it's dark, velvety red blooms don't fade or burn in the heat, even in my Jacksonville, FL (9b) garden! And it has a fragrance!
I've had this rose in my garden for over 10 years. It needs enormous amounts of room and is hard to keep in bounds but, the spring flush is just stunning! This rose was given to me by a family member that said it was 'Seven Sisters' but it has never resembled 'Seven Sisters'. The huge sprays of blooms that this rose produces will fill a large vase with hundreds of blooms with just a few stems! This rose is also thorn-less, but it does have some prickles under the leaves. Unfortunate, I don't have room for this rose anymore after I moved to my current small, historic district garden.
This rose is an aggressive grower in my Jacksonville, FL (9b) garden and really prefers a cooler climate to thrive. Blooms only once and is intolerant to shade. Grows to an unmanageable size but the blooms are just incredible and the wafting scent of violets is calming and pleasant. The light butter yellow blooms look like lace on the plant and I just adore this rose. Unfortunately, I just don't have the room for it after moving to my small, historic district garden.
