[From Les Amis de Roses", January-June 1920, p. 132:] Nous avons eu à déplorer la mort d'un des membres fondateurs de notre Société, M. Jean Croibier, père de notre sympathique premier Vice-Président....Depuis 1876, il s'était consacré à la culture spéciale du rosier.

[From A Rose Odyssey, by J.H. Nicolas, 1937, p. 12ff:] ...J.B. Croibier... [who worked with Pernet], is retired from active rose-growing business. He is now president of Société Française des Rosieristes. ....Croibier is a wealthy man, but at home in Vénissieux he still wears the apron and wooden shoes of the trade and is easily recognized in a crowd by his military handle-bar mustaches. He was once a noncommissioned officer in the army and has several military medals, including the cross of the Légion d'honneur. His son Eugene is carrying on the family traditions and does considerable cross-breeding work from which we may hear some day.

C'est en 1892 que notre Ami commença à donner toute l'ampleur de sa mesure. Il cultivait 150.000 rosiers par an. Désireux de s'instruire, il participa à d'innombrables expositions en France et à l'Etranger. Ce fut lui qui, en 1896, créa la Société Française des Rosiéristes....En 1931, il fut nommé Commandeur du Mérite Agricole; en 1936, Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur. Depuis 1932, il assurait la Présidence de la Société.

Croibier, aujourd'hui décédé, qui fui noire dernier Président pendant de longues années. « M. J.-B. Croibier Père, était bien connu dans le monde horticole, où il comptait de
nombreux amis. Depuis 1870, il s'était consacré à la culture du Rosier.
