LENS, Louis Lens (March 3, 1924 Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-Waver - May 10, 2001 Mechelen) Louis Lens's first cultivar was 'Papillon Rose' in 1954.
[From Peter Schneider on Roses, p. 147:] Louis Lens devoted much of his attention to hybrid musks. A few of the new Lens hybrid musks are available in the United States.

[From World Rose News, June 2001, pp. 9-10:] Louis Lens ...was a third generation nurseryman and rose grower who took over th business that was started in 1870 by his grandfather on the outskirts of the Belgian city of Mechelen. Louis was born on March 3, 1924 ...He died on March 10, 2001 in the same home he had livedin for his entire life....In the 1970's Louis decided he wanted to create roses that no one else was creating. He returned to the species and the hybrid musks for inspiration.

Son père le pousse à procéder à des hybridations mais aussi à reconstituer la Collection de rosiers, perdue pendant la guerre...En 1954, ses travaux d'hybridation donnent naissance à une première création, 'Papillon Rose', un floribunda rose parfumé très prise....Entre 1947 et 2000, il a crée près de 170 roses...
