Notes:
Finegand Nursery says this rose has Gallica-like rosettes of deep crimson which turn with age to a beautiful purplish-maroon... One of the early products of David Austin's breeding program. Modern Roses 10 says that it is repeat-blooming, but Austin says that it is once-blooming.
The Plant Science Dept. of the Nova Scotia Agriculture College evaluated 58 English Roses to assess their hardiness and disease-resistance. Their results can be found at: http://www.nsac.ns.ca/nsac/ps/annual96/mapple.htm. Chianti was found to be winter hardy.
