Nola Simpson. Final Analysis 1993-94.
'Cup Final' (MACsingap); McGredy 1987; 'Benson & Hedges Gold' x ('Kalahari' 'x Papa Meilland'); orange salmon; 16 reports on 16 bushes; 2-6 years; 1.4 metres; 6.7 rating. This rose has not been widely grown over the years and the numbers have been dropping each year with only two this year. The bush grew well enough initially, but seemed to deteriorate with age and dieback was a problem with some. The health was not all it might be, with both rust and powdery mildew presenting a problem. The flowers were shapely, salmon orange in colour, smallish in size, and they were often borne in clusters, so much disbudding was required. The repeat of bloom was slow, but one reporter found it a useful rose in floral art. Not a lot going for it, I am afraid.

Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1992-93 Season
'Cup Final'. McGredy 1988; orange salmon; 3 reports on 3 bushes; 2-6 years; 1.6 metres; no rating - too few reports. Only three reports this year and only one of these seems happy with this rose saying it is healthy and a good cut flower rose. A Franklin grower says it deteriorates with age and very subject to die back and rust, slow repeat of flowers and there are not many of them. From North Otago similar comments were expressed and the bush has been discarded.

Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1991-92 Season. Hybrid Teas.
'Cup Final' McGredy 1988; orange salmon; 6 reports on 6 bushes; 1-4 years; 1.5 metres; 5.8 rating. The few reporters have not enthused on this one over 2 years. Dieback and rust reported, colour OK, slow repeat - not much going for it by the sound of it.
Book  (1989)  Page(s) 90.

Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses for 1988-89 Season
'Cup Final' MACsingap; McGredy 1988; orange/salmon; 5 reports; 5 bushes; 1-2 years; 1.3m; 7.3 rating. A similar colour to 'Galway Bay', but unfading and the blooms are large and come one per stem. There is good repeat and the bush is thorny, vigorous and healthy. Canterbury reports that the blooms open fairly quickly. All reporters say the bush is good, strong and healthy. We await next year's reports to learn more.
