Lester' is now making its way atop a huge plum tree, spreading a carpet on top in the early summer. and the perfume fills the garden. In early fall (at least what we call autumn in California) brilliant bouquets of hips offer a second round of colour to the garden. and a few blooms as well....The rose that gives Francis Lester a place in rose history was named for him after his death in 1945. It was one of a number of seedlings he was nursing. 'Kathleen' and an unnamed variety are given as the parents. All those who have written about it have nothing but praise.

Once flowering, fairly late in the season for a summer rose, but then flowering for an extended period...
