The statement from Rivers that "this was raised from General Allard, a hybrid Bourbon rose, blooming generally once in the season. Monsieur Laffay, by persevering through two or three generations of seedlings, has at last obtained his object" does not necessarily mean "two or three generations" from 'Général Allard'. 'Général Allard' was itself one of Laffay's seedlings; the "two or three generations" could be Generation 1, Parent of 'Général Allard', whatever it might have been (and the parent of that parent could likely also have been one of Laffay's seedlings); Generation 2, 'Général Allard'; and now Generation 3, 'Mme. Laffay'.

This rose looks beautiful in the photos, but I wonder how it can stand up to a hot sunny climate? I notice amongst the photos one that was taken in Texas, with the comment that the subtle colouring and cup-shaping of the blooms was not present "under these conditions". Does this mean that it tends to just be a fairly banal pink in heat?

Hello, The flowers do very well in full sun in my garden in the south of France. Beware, it is getting very tall (mine has stems 4 metres high planted bare rooted in November 2018=>15 CM). Best regards, Huyustus
