7.8 Miss Salway (Kelway 1889)—Crown type. Very large globular compact flowers with high crown. Primary petals white, center lilac-white, with colloar of sulphur-yellow. Strong tall grower, free bloomer and fragrant. One of the most delightful varieties, having an individuality that is both attractive and pleasing. Midseason. The true variety is very scarce. Kelway, of England, has produced some very fine varieties, such as Baroness Schroeder, James Kelway, Lady Alexandra Duff, and various other sorts.
Miss Salway. Very large, compact, globular, high crown; lilac-white, collar lighter; fragrance X; strong, tall grower; free bloomer; midseason. Extra fine. $10.00.

Species — P. albiflora.
Originated by Kelway.

Description of bloom —Type of bloom crown. Form of bloom globular, compact. Differentiated. Entirely transformed. Color (total effect) lilac white 2 (7); guards clear; collar lighter than guards; center clear. Fragrance pleasant X. Blooming time mid-season. Very large size.
Description of plant — Habit of plant erect, tall, compact. Growth strong and healthy. Stem long, strong, red. Blooming habit free. Buds borne in clusters, healthy. Foliage well furnished, medium green, medium size ; veins reddish green.
Commercial value — For cut bloom extra good; landscape value extra good. Variety as a whole extra good.
Remarks— Very similar to "Madame Lemoine"; taller crown, however, and not as compact.

Kelway & Son, of Langport, received a silver-gilt medal for a magnificent display of Pæonies, Pyrethrums, and other flowers in season [...] Of the double [Pæonies] the very finest were Agenoria, French white centre and pink-shaded outer segments; Baroness Schroeder, dense centre, fine pink guard petals; Prince George, crimson-purple; Lutea variegata, yellow-white guard petals; Miss Salway, pale yellow; Maria Kelway, rose; and Lady F. Bramwell, rose, very sweet.
