Catherine Francis Gore's "The Rose Fancier's Manual" of 1838 was based extensively on "Manuel Complet de l'Amateur de Roses" (1836) by Pierre Boitard, which she acknowledges, but translated into a structure adapted to english-speaking rose lovers.
