I bought GAT from Loubert as I'm switching to more heat and drought resistant roses in my garden so bring on the China's and Teas.
This is her first summer and she's standing in an 18 liters pot but she will go into the ground this fall (2024). Brown red new shoots appeared quite early and by May she already formed a well balanced little bush of approx 110X50 cm. Soon buds appeared and they opened into deep vibrant red, cupped, very double blooms. They dangle down gracefully and have a very good fruity fragrance which is rather rare in the China family. June was a terrible month in Belgium this year with rain á volonté but GAT was very rain tolerant and it surprised me how long the flower's shelf life is. They stay beautiful for at least a week, even in hot weather. When she was blooming she made new branches from the graft and by the end of June they also started to flower. Was the color in cooler weather vibrant deep red, in hot temperatures they turn pink but they certainly don't burn. They usually come in small clusters. She's standing next to an Agapanthus and the combination is stunning. So for now it's definitely two thumbs up!

What a happy surprise this rose is. I planted her in a container in my coastal Northern California garden. She gets morning sun and has thrived, in spite of brutal winter winds that broke some of her delicate branches and ripped her leaves. She forgives all. The plant is graceful. The flowers always the same deep cerise-not magenta! 3 inch flowers that are a bit droopy, so having her in a container works. I have only begun to train her to climb. The fragrance is delicious and she does not have bad thorns. She has had a bit of black spot, but nothing major. She puts of a steady display of bloom. Usually 6 or 7 at a time. Very pretty.

Gruss an Teplitz is covered in powdery mildew in Inland LA County. Not sure why it is described as resistant to mildew? Even with the mildew, it flowers a lot and looks nice from a distance as a short climber on a cable fence with good air circulation all around and 8-12 hours of sun per day. I have it in a back corner so I rarely see it up close. It’s a nice pop of crimson in the back.
