McGredy, UK, 1925. Ascendance inconnue.

White Ensign. (syn: “Monty’s White Tea”) Modern. Large-flowered hybrid tea. White. Repeat-flowering. The flowers of this rose have a very Tea-like form. From nicely shaped buds they open to very double, flat, white, many petalled flowers with a cream center. There is some fragrance. The foliage is healthy, mid-green and plentiful, and the production of flowers is very good. It enjoys vigorous and bushy growth and there are no disease problems. This is an excellent rose for picking as the creamy buff color in the center of the flowers holds its color well and looks lovely in arrangements. It is a popular rose for planting in beds and borders and for use among bulbs and perennial plants. Zones 5-10. McGredy, UK 1925. Parentage unknown

“White Ensign” Bred in Northern Ireland in 1925, this white hybrid tea is a stunner with large double blooms that have a slight perfume. It is recurrent-blooming and its growth is vigorous. It will grow to approximately 1.5m tall. Steve Beck (Melbourne’s Roses & Friends) lists it as one of his top two among this bunch. It might be hard to find a specimen, but the search will be worth it.

Allen Brundrett, Narre Warren North, Vic: White Ensign has a rather short bud, but is well filled with petals, is free flowering and hardy. At its best the blooms when displayed are sometimes mistaken for gardenias. It is a variety that can be appreciated either as a half open bud or as a full blown flower.
