'Old Black' rose Reviews & Comments

this rose wants have a place in full sunlight, despite the very dark colour of it´s blooms, which changes from deepest purple to blueish-grey with age, which is not unpleasant in this case. the flowers are quite small, but - what a show! i think the few visible bright yellow stemen do the trick (just like "tuscany superb"). it blooms in clusters of about 6 to eight and when the first flower opens it "sits" in a nest of beautyfull moss-covered buds. the pant itself is easily recogniseable because of it´s richly brown-mossed branches which are, in fact, a bit scattily foliated. it is a small, not very strong-growing, bushy rose, best planted in groups or as a low hedge. i have to say that it is (like mosses seem to be in common) very susceptible to rust and mildew. it doesn´t like too much humidity as well as in the air or in the ground.
