This was among the first ten of my roses. Actually, I liked it. Easy to grow. The blooms were huge here. 6-8" saucers. It did not have high repeat bloom, but it has okay vigor, and it didn't mildew. Blackspot was average for an older fragrant red rose.

Yes it is red and stunning in statue height , and what a show of gorgeous long long long lasting blooms. Yes it is a old rose , I purchased mine from Jackson and Perkins many years ago, 1987 and it goes and goes the blooms are just spectacular. Not too heat tolerant and not very vigorous, but does get tall and has long thorny stems. In the fall bloom they are much redder, in high heat they produce few but are more dark dark pinkish In the center. I really enjoy this rose as it is what you see before coming in the back door, constant marvellled compliments on it uniqueness . If you can find one these days get it. I have many own root cuttings from it, never want to lose it.

I saw PROUD LAND at Orchard Supply in Mountain View, CA for $5.99/one gallon.
The color was dark, deep pink/red . . . It resembles the color seen on some of
these on-line photos. Depending on the sunlight received, this rose may redden?

I guess it's possible it could bloom more characteristically of the variety once it gets treated correctly. I'd be more inclined to believe it's mislabeled than anything else. If the retail is only about $6, it didn't cost OSH that much to buy. At least here on the West Coast, you find many mis labeled plants in the low priced, larger stores.

I have a question. I am a new member of the Jersey Shore Rose Society and we are having a big show this weekend, anyone who enters a class have to name their roses used. I have roses, I am using but I am not sure if the rose I got a few weeks ago is named correctly. I bought Proud Land and it is beautiful. The picture on the take and the metal tag both say Proud Land, but the plant only had buds on it, no real blooms to see open. Now that it is home, the blooms are starting to open and they look more very very deep pink, NOT RED. Is this normal. I have to be sure that no one switched the tag because if I name that rose and the judges now or think it is not Proud Land I will be disqualified. So maybe you can help ASAP, I really want to use to rose, but I am affraid it is the wrong name. Maybe though it does appear deep pink, I am confused because every thing I read on this rose say deep red. PLEASE HELP. Thank you so much, jennifer

Jenifer: I have grown Proud Land for many years and it is RED! My bush does not appear pink in any way or at any time. Might I suggest that you not enter your particular rose in the competition but stick to flowers you KNOW are the real thing. You'll find it listed on the net at HelpMeFind. I tried to locate it under Jackson-Perkins, the company I purchased it through many years ago, but they have no listing. Good luck! Wylie
