Thought to be related to Rosa cinnamomea. Agathe was the heroine of Weber's immensely popular opera of 1821, Der Freischütz, and several roses were named after her around that time.

The flowers are large for an Old Garden Rose... light and deep pink, with shadings and veinings of mauve and violet... not much fragrance... short and compact... parents might have been R. gallica and R. cinnamomea.
