'Occhi di Fata ®' rose Reviews & Comments

The striking color change which occur in the blooms of Occhi di fata is an outstanding example of sunlight induced color change. The term phototropism has been used to describe this phenomenon. The term more aptly describes the way some sunflowers interact with the sun. Dr. Malcolm Manners who has a long history to bringing clarity to confusing rose issues has suggested photochromogenesis and photochromomorphosis as better terms to describe this phenomenon. I completely agree with Dr. Manners. Sometimes the color change enhances the beauty of the blooms and sometimes the change is distracting. For example there are striped roses in which the color change diminishes the striping. An effective way to control the color change is to cut the rose fairly tight and bring the blooms indoors.

Really a lovely rose! Easy to grow, virtually disease free in my no spray garden. Throws beautiful clusters of sparkling white flowers that magically change to glowing ruby. Purchased mail order and arriving late in the season, this plant surprised me with quick growth and plentiful flowers. Would be fantastic in a mass planting.
