regarding the TENDER.........it was killed to the ground in the first 2 years when others were quite fine........December '83 in Columbus was record breaking and THAT did it in for sure............needed to clarify that! -24 is -24!!!!
Grew this in the early 80's in 6a, Columbus. My personal experience was that is was quite unique, the plant grew short and stout, MAYBE 2 feet tall, MAYBE and produced quite large, very well shaped blooms all one to a stem, the general effect being almost as if you just plugged a dozen florist roses into the ground. Have a 1981 or so AARS annual and seems my experience was not unique, this is like a little stout Hybrid Tea or maybe some MAXI Miniflora.........it is extremely tender. Absolutely, that also strikes a lucid memory. Had it for 3 years I believe and then December 1983 struck with record lows around -24 and most survivied but this one did not and Armstrong was either no longer listing it by then already or I decided against replacing it then, not sure. However! I did buy this recently from Vintage and cannot wait for it to arrive and see it again, see how it "adds up" so to speak.............very unique little-big rose!
