I had long thought that a bright dark-coloured climbing Rose was a desideratum, as at that time nearly all our climbing Roses were white or yellow. To obtain this I hybridized the Rose Athelin (Hybrid Bourbon) with Russelliana (Multiflora). Paul's Vivid, a bright crimson climbing Rose, of great repute in its day, and even now sought after, was raised from this effort.
Vivid is a vigorous Bourbon and sometimes if a rose is very vigorous, it tends to make growth at the expense of flowers. Give your rose at least three years to settle in and become use to you soil and climate and then I think you will see a repeat bloom. A little extra fertilizer after the first flush can also help. But not one that is high in nitrogen. Look for a high second number.
I am living in the middle of Germany. My Vivid is ten years old, huge dense bush, covered in wonderful flowers for weeks in June till early July, but never after that date, though many of my once flowering roses like Fritz Nobis, Early Red or so many Pimpinellifolia do the trick very well in autumn.
