Touch of class does not bloom so well for me, no fragrance, blooms are small relative to the bush, and she is a powdery mildew magnet here in Southern California. Yet.. I still grow her because she is just THAT beautiful at her best. The color and form is just so romantic, I will always grow this rose.

I just noticed that the page states that 'Touch of Class' was bred before 1982, and yet in the parentage the seed pod listed is 'Micaela' bred in 1986.

It was obviously the Micaëla bred date that was incorrect. As there is a 1970 reference in the ‘Micaëla’ file, we’ve altered the bred date from 1986 to before 1970. Many thanks Alexday.

This is currently the HIGHEST RATED HT in the US. Not sure what to say about that. It is a GOOD rose. It has never EVER knocked my socks off and although I grew it for years and it is the all-time favorite of my sister and my mother I just cannot say the same. It is REALLY HEALTHY. It blooms A LOT. The petals have substance, no smell, the stems are long. The bloom seems a little small against the plant in my opinion. To me this one just lacks PERSONALITY. It is like the straight A student who had no extra-curriculars or the Miss America 1st runner-up. It just is lacking something in my opinion that truly sets it apart and makes it worthy of being the current top rated HT. The color is basically coral-salmon, sometimes there is a cream element. The leaves are big and leathery and healthy. The plant is big. It is hardy. But so many have so many similar elements! Pristine has great leaves! Esther Geldenhuys has a very, VERY similar bloom and habit! This SHOULD be a TOP rated rose but the HIGHEST rated rose?

The blooms are huge, and they are warmer-toned on mature plants. They are 6" as we speak now, but I live in Oregon.

Pristine has nice flowers, but the plant grows sideways, and is thorny. T of C has a low thorn count for an HT. Sheer Elegance, which is from Pristine, is slightly better in these issues, but its not as strong of a plant. Brigadoon mimics the exact issues.

To me, the only con for T of C is that it is at least 1 ft. too tall. This plant easily hits 7' tall. It could be 4-5', to fit better in most landscapes. Let Freedom Ring has this exact issue, too.

I'm in Denver with very hot dry summers temps. reaching triple digits, mild winters usually, long growing season for roses, especially for touch of class, survived three hard freezes before going dormant middle of November. It's a great rose , very modest tall habit, and long single stems with humongous blooms for me. No fragrance to speak of just a beautiful salmon orange that stay colored for a long time. Got it as a bagged lowes bare root and it has been one of my favorite for all these years. 18 years old now , it seems to like semi shaded , here at least. With the description of zones I would say we are more towards zone 7 in my area. I do mulch heavy all year, especially for our windy springs.
