I have been blessed to, in the past 10 or 14 years, have either revisited old favorites from my childhood or finally have grown some “holy grail” varieties. This variety is close to the top of my list right now when it comes to the remaining “ holy grails.”

I took your advice on another holy grail, ‘Candy Apple’, and should be receiving from RU in a few weeks….

So glad you have Candy Apple! We can thank Terry Riley with San Jose Municipal Rose Garden who helped get the almost lost variety back in circulation and Pat Henry who owns RU for listing it! Heirloom passed on it!! ……I’m having no luck with Cherry Brandy, alas.

Well, thank you for the recommendation! It is such a unique color…hard to describe, but easily the brightest, most eye-catching red in my garden. I certain light conditions, I notice that the under-petals, shaded from the sun, turn a bright pink, and leave a very distinct “shadow” as the bloom opens. See pic. Alas, I believe it is infertile as a mother, but I do have a couple of fat hips from trials I ran on the pollen this past spring. HMF lists no descendants, so we shall see…
