Notes:
Rosa sericea and Rosa omeiensis both have a form 'Pteracantha' with broad, flat, winglike prickles. Rosa sericea should be a shorter plant with commonly fewer leaflets, 7-11, althought it can have up to 13 and as few as 5. Hips may be red or purple-brown and obovoid or round, smooth, with persistent erect sepals. See References for more details and Rosa omeiensis 'Pteracantha' for its distinguishing characteristics.
'Atrosanguinea' is the pteracanthous selection of R. omeiensis introduced by The Hillier Garden & Arboretum.
