Ruston's, Renmark, South Australia. zone 9b. Early spring. The three flowers on the left are Laevigata with new leaves; the three on the right are Cooperii (something has been eating the stamens). This form of Cooperii starts flowering two weeks later than Laevigata, has smaller flowers, and the petals overlap less (observations by David Ruston).

Note: This rose was moved from my former garden in the high desert to my new garden in the low desert and was severely cut back for the move. It is recovering nicely and should fill the area at the back of my backyard garden fairly quickly.

Another closeup of the flowers. Look at the bright yellow stamens of the just opened flower, (they turn brown on the second day), and the pink tones in the older flower to the left. |
