Also, in the reference from my book, the statement "A dark crimson red which does not blush" reproduces my own copying error from the original; it should read "A dark crimson red which does not blue."

Stated parentage is questionable, in light of the following: "We had wished to complete our notes on ‘Abel Carrière’ by giving a few words on its origin—but such is not possible. Its breeder, Monsieur E. Verdier, picks out each year a considerable number of seedlings (perhaps twenty or thirty thousand), and plants them all mixed together as those which seem, comparatively, the best.” [Revue Horticole 1875, p. 410]
