The lower surface of leaves, the leaf margins, the rachis and the margins of the stipules are all glandular. I posted an image of the reverse of a leaflet, showing the glandular surface that feels rough to the touch. I detect no scent from the glands, but it is very late in the season. The leaf margins are bi-serrate. The canes color red in exposure. The flowering branchlets are smooth, with no prickles, but the major canes have stout, short, down-curved prickles. I found no hips at all on my plant this year, but I have a vague recollection of hips in the past. The reverse of the leaf can be seen here (sorry, late in the day, no tripod, fuzzy) http://www.rosefog.us/TemporaryImages/DentelleDeMalinesLeafRev.jpg
