Fortunately the trend to breed varieties of roses which now double as good garden roses such as 'Raspberry Ice', 'Reflections', Paddy Stephens, 'Solitaire'. Margaret Merrill and many of the miniatures now double as both exhibition and good garden roses and that is a definite "plus".

p18. Hayden Foulds. My Five Healthiest Roses.
The first Paddy Stephens (MACclack) needs no introduction. It is one of the most easy to grow roses around and never disappoints in the garden. For a hybrid tea it does produce a lot of blooms but mostly one to a stem. In my opinion, the best rose ever from Sam McGredy.

p19. Val Clarke. My Five Healthiest Roses.
Top of the list is Paddy Stephens. Paddy is top of my everything list; healthy, vigorous, lots of flowers of a stunning colour, quick repeat, new foliage looks great even before the flowers appear, doesn't need lots of stakes to hold it up - a great rose.

p20. A Combined Effort from Franklin Rose Society. My Five Healthiest Roses.
Paddy Stephens. Received several votes of "my absolute favourite". A healthy rose with splendid new shiny bronze foliage that complements the coral/orange and salmon flowers. One of the first to flower and repeats quickly. Handy for the show bench. Very good for the garden.

p31. Sean McCann. An Optimist Among The Roses.
You can see the great progress that breeders have made when you grow Paddy Stephens - this McGredy bred rose was one of the very best in my garden in 2005. Full of bright flowers, great foliage and nice growth pattern it strikes me as being one of the very best of recent years.

Paddy Stephens is the top favourite with 270 points, last year it was given 228 points. It was also shown to be the healthiest rose.

p28. Joan and Ken Turner. Favourite Exhibiting Roses.
Fully Open Bloom. It is a hard decision for us to decide between Paddy Stephens and 'Elina' as these are our very favourite fully open blooms. As we have had more success with 'Paddy Stephens' at shows this has to be our final choice.

p33. Val Clarke. Favourite Exhibiting Roses.
Fully Open. Paddy Stephens One of my favourite roses. Healthy, vigorous growth, glossy foliage and a super colour with lots of blooms. Possibly not ample petals as the rule's request but outstanding in all other aspects.
Book  (2003)  Page(s) 37.

Janice Cousins. Five Favourite Roses.
Certainly our favourites are whatever is out at the time. Paddy Stephens would have to be at the top of the list. Lovely colour, lovely upright bush, glossy foliage. She attracts a few greenfly but I am sure they are only attracted to the best and the most beautiful of roses.
