Blooms are much larger and loose than I assumed they would be. The darker "discoloration" when they first begin to open is not really such a big deal, like the references seem to claim. Back then, anything remotely close to a purple tone was considered "bluing". It soon disappears as the blooms open and become quite deep in color. Foliage is on the slender side. Resistances seem average. Vigor seems okay for its class type.
'Mister Lincoln' is still one of the top-selling roses, and even it "blues," especially on the petal face as it ages. Yet, and quite obviously, no one seems to mind.
It always surprises me to see how often the Tantau HTs were used by other 20thC breeders. 'Tropicana' and especially 'Fragrant Cloud' seem to have been almost as popular for parents as was 'Peace' in an earlier generation.
