I grew Modern Times and Candy Stick side by side for years. The Modern Times plant was own root from the old plant which had grown at The Huntington Library for many years. Candy Stick was budded from an eastern nursery no longer around. Both sat side by side in my Newhall garden for over fifteen years. Observing them over that period, it became obvious that, even though they occurred in different places, decades apart, the two roses are identical. Photos of Modern Times can be accurately referred to as illustrations for Candy Stick.
