Origin:
Bred by Charles Mallerin (France, before 1943).
Introduced in France by Meilland et Cie in 1943 as 'Pontcarral'.
Class:
Hybrid Tea.  
Bloom:
Cherry-red, red shading, yellow undertones, golden-yellow reverse.  Mild fragrance.  Medium, semi-double to double, cupped bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Long buds.  
Habit:
Bushy, upright.  Leathery foliage.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
In the 1944 reference Mallerin is cited as the breeder and Meilland as the introducer.
"Pontcarral, colonel of the empire" is a 1942 French movie, based on the novel "Pontcarral" by Albéric Cahuet (1937). The pseudonym Pontcarral was used by several perosns of the Résistance.
