‘Bulls Red’/MACrero =Hybride de Thé. L’atout de sa fleur est sa longévité, qui la rend infiniment précieuse en vase. Solitaire… gros bouton joufflu… grande fleur à larges pétales, bien double, à cœur turbiné, rouge sang tirant sur le rubis… parfum discret… grand buisson vigoureux et dressé, vêtu d’un feuillage sombre. I must tell you about Bulls Red (McGredy). It is a most useful rose coming on long stems both singly and severally and holding well in the vase. This popular rose was so named to commemorate the 100th year of the Bulls Rose Society which held its first rose show in 1978, the society having been formed the year before. Bulls is a small village about 40kms from Wanganui so it has nothing to do with bulls seeing red even if they could, which they can't of course.

Bulls Red. McGredy 1977 ('Sympathie' x 'Irish Rover') 7.3 rating. Our first reports in 1977 were not over enthusiastic over this rose. 'Perhaps it will improve'; 'Not impressed', 'Not enough bloom' were reports. Masses of small red blooms', 'One of the best picking roses', 'Repeats well', 'Great picking rose'. The colour is a medium red shade, the blooms of 28 petals a little on the small side perhaps, with great lasting properties, this last is perhaps its greatest attribute. The foliage is a dark green and apparently quite healthy for reports over the years specify no disease. The plant grows quite tall, four to five feet, even up to eight feet in the Hutt area. We would call this a great picking red rose, ideal for floral work, as well as a good healthy garden rose, one to be planted in the back row though.

Bulls Red' (McCredy '77 - 'Sympathie' X 'Irish Rover') 11 reports, 3 years, Average height 5', 8.2 rating. Medium red. Reports in from Northland to North Otago, speak of smallish red flowers that last very well when picked. It flowers very well over the season. Growth is tall and healthy. A very good garden and florists rose.

Bulls Red HT: Released in New Zealand in 1977, this rose has become very popular as a cut flower variety. The small blooms are a dull dark red borne on very long stems and their keeping quality is quite remarkable. The bushes are very vigorous, healthy and upright.

Bulls Red Dark red. 9 reports. 4 years. 150cm. 7.6 rating. Gisborne: Even though classed as a floribunda you can pick bunches of long stemmed roses. I am sure the name puts people off. Healthy. Nelson: Always in bloom. Great for cutting as blooms last well. Masterton: Masses of small red roses, handy vase rose. Strong and healthy.

Bulls Red. Only two local growers have this McGredy rose of 1977, and they have very little to say except it is a good garden rose, giving blooms that last well both on the bush and in the vase. The colour - red - does not burn, the flowers have slight fragrance, and the foliage is healthy.

Bulls Red. Dark red. 10 reports; 2 years grown; Average height 100cm; Rating 7.3. Gisborne: Good garden rose, repeats well, doesn't burn. Auckland: Excellent for cut /lowers but too small for exhibition. Hastings: Bush and blooms much improved this year. Repeats well, good keeper.
