'Paeonienrose'. This Centifolia was found by Gerda Nissen in Schleswig-Holstein which she named Rosa x francofurtana 'Paeonienrose', as described in the following sources:
C. Nickels, "Cultur, Benennung und Beschreibung der Rosen", Pressburg 1845, describes a 'turbinata poeonieflora': central floral crown vivid rosy red, paler along the edges, three inches, fairly full the inner petals somwhat erect, partly curled and thus emulating the lovely shape of a paeonia. Fruit gyroscopic, dense, short and smooth." W. Keller "Verzeichnis der großen Rosensammlung in Duisburg am Rhein", 1828, shows a Francofurtana 'Neue Pàonienrose'. We do not believe this variety to be a Francofurtana, but an unknown Centifolia.
