David Austin Roses of Albrighton, Wolverhampton are launching four new roses.  Portmeirion is named for Susan Williams-Ellis, designer of the beautiful Portmeirion pottery and for her husband Euan Cooper-Willis, Chairman of Portmeirion Potteries Ltd.  Plants are low-growing and suitable for small gardens.  The deep pink flowers have a pleasing fragrance.

('Portmeiran') Named for the village of Portmeirion in Wales, one of the most beautiful and quaint villages in the world. It is a Mediterranean style village with tile-roofed buildings unlike anywhere else in the British Isles. Noel Coward penned "Blithe Spirit" while staying there. The rose was introduced by Jensen of Germany and they changed the spelling of the name. 'Portmeirion' is correct. The rose has fully double, old-fashioned blooms of a beautiful shade [of] … frosted pink. The flowers are produced on a moderately vigorous bush with grey-green foliage. Ideal for the smaller garden or in pots. (1988)
