‘Marjorie Atherton’. Modern, large-flowered hybrid tea. Medium yellow, repeat-flowering. This rose has the strong upright growth of ‘Mount Shasta’ and the plump buds and excellent foliage of ‘Peace’. The color is soft maize yellow and keeps well. The large, oval buds open to long lasting double flowers with 25 petals and a beautiful rounded shape. The flower production is fairly good and there are no disease problems. The foliage is pale green. ‘Marjorie Atherton’ is one of the best Australian-raised roses. Zones 5-10. Bell, Australia, 1977. ‘Mount Shasta’ x ‘Peace’.

Mr. Kevin Johns, Greenbank, Q’ld. ‘Marjorie Atherton’. (Australian raised) – has beautiful large maize yellow blooms. The health and vigour of this bush is outstanding, with nice glossy foliage. It is easy to grow in our climatic conditions. I have found it to be quite disease resistant.

p49 Australian Raised Roses Symposium. Mrs. Con Ryan, WA ‘Marjorie Atherton’ is a tall grower with blooms of rich creamy yellow, fading almost to white. A pretty rose, but like its parent, the famous ‘Peace’, it is very quick to open.

p52 George Thomson, SA. ‘Majorie Atherton’ cream buff HT. This could prove to be one of Ron Bell’s best roses. It likes the weather we get here, cold damp nights and a lot more rain than the Adelaide plains. Large flowers good for cutting too.

p54 Mr Allan Read, NSW. ‘Marjorie Atherton’ and …. also do well on the show bench in Victoria.

p55 Mr Len Johnston, Q’ld ‘Marjorie Atherton’ (Bell). A maize–yellow rose, tough and healthy. A vigorous rose. A great rose for the full bloom, and the bud to full bloom in three stages.

p58 Mr Morris Duce, Q’ld. ‘Marjorie Atherton’ HT. Released in 1977 bred from ‘Mt. Shasta’ x ‘Peace’. Flowers of light-yellow double, foliage light-green, vigorous upright-growing bush.

p65 Mr. Philip Sutherland, Victoria. ‘Marjorie Atherton’. This rose I must include, if not for any other reason than it being one of (my wife) Heather’s favourites. With good clear (mid yellow) colour, large blooms and more than fair fragrance, it is not hard to enjoy this Hybrid Tea by Ron Bell. With ‘Mt. Shasta’ and ‘Peace’ as parents, Heather believes it has some potential as a parent also.
