Nastarana has asked: Does no one know when and where the climbing sport was discovered.
I have put this question to Kordes and they have replied:
"To my knowledge there is no Climbing mutation of ‘Angela‘ around – confusion might be caused (?) by use in Japan as climber… At KEISEI in Japan they definitely trim it as climber (they list height with 3m !) as you can see in the attached image taken in their show garden. This always amazes me as well since everywhere else (even in warmer climates) it’s actually a pretty moderate grower – so stronger vigour must be caused by typical local climate in Japan."
I have added References from Sue Zwar who noted in the 2015-38 reference that in Italy it had a similar habit to that of the climber 'Koala'. I think Jeff Britt (California) hit the nail on the head when he was responding to Meryl (NSW) in 'Angela's' Comments: "Angela gets BIG here, too. I guess it's a question of the milder climate encouraging much longer canes. I don't think you'll be able to make it as small as you want it -- pruning it after the first flush just stimulates more big growth over the summer."
I'll merge 'Angela Cl.' with 'Angela' later in if nobody has any objections.

According to the following reference the rose "Angela", winner the AJJH 1990, was introduced in France by Paul Pekmez but was obtained by Kordes. This rose, thus, can be merged with the Kordes' one.
