Introduced in France by Louis Lévêque & Fils in 1875 as 'Duc de Montpensier'.
Introduced in Australia by George Brunning - St. Kilda Nurseries in 1882 as 'Duc de Montpensier'.
Class:
Hybrid Perpetual.  
Bloom:
Dark red, crimson shading, brown shading.  Moderate fragrance.  Very large, double (17-25 petals), borne mostly solitary, in small clusters bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Bushy.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).
