The American patent states this was a cross between two unnamed seedlings. The Australian patent states this, "Origin and Breeding Open-pollination: this variety was the result of a rose hip found on the ground in the breeding area of De Ruiter's Nieuwe Rozen B.V. The following are the possible parents: possible seed parents ‘Jacakor’, ‘B.C.G.104’ or ‘Harpade’ x possible pollen parents ‘Ruirouvingt’ or ‘Korflapei’. ‘Jacakor’ is characterised by very large hot pink to mauve flowers on a large plant. ‘B.C.G.104’ is characterised by its mauve perfumed flowers on a strong bush. ‘Harpade’ is characterised by its semi-double magenta/white bi-colour flowers. ‘Ruirouvingt’ is characterised by its yellow/pink flowers. ‘Korflapei’ is characterised by its small bright yellow flowers. Hybridisation took place in De Kwakel, The Netherlands in 1993. This seedling was chosen on the basis of flower colour. Selection criteria: colour, productivity as a cut flower and vase life."

You're welcome. I'd encourage anyone who finds the parentage information interesting and important to fish it from the patents. There have been a few (such as Smoky) where no such information has ever been made known, yet it was right there in the patent for anyone who cared to look, to see.

Yes, getting the linage up for 'Smoky' was rather fun.

Thanks again, Kim.
