Some All-Canadian Roses

H.M. Eddie & Sons Ltd., 4100 S.W. Marine Drive, Vancouver 13, B.C., have produced far more Hybrid Tea roses of Canadian origin than anyone else in Canada. They have been hybridizing for over thirty years, and have produced eighteen roses in B.C. as follows in alphabetical order:
"Flaming Sunset", Hybrid Tea. Introduced in 1948. A "McGredy's Sunset" sport. Jackson & Perkins of the U.S.A. had a similar sport, but Eddie & Sons were a year earlier.

Of truly decorative roses, one of the best is McGredy's Sunset, and now come two sports from it which are truly beautiful. Beryl Formby is one that catches the eye at once and is closely followed by another sport from the same source in Flaming Sunset. Both are very similar in growth to the parent and will make a fine show in the garden.

Harry H. Hazlewood.  The New Roses of 1951. Flaming Sunset (Eddie, 1947), Sunset Glory (Boerner, 1947). Sunset Pride (Morse, 1949), Beryl Formby (Fryer, 1948) are all sports of 'McGredy's Sunset' with many points in common. They all have the same rather moderate growth, dark stems, glossy foliage, semi-double bicolour blooms. Flaming Sunset has orange red and scarlet shades with a paler reverse.
