From ‘Columbian Climber’ comments:
The rose Columbia produced 20 known sports, of which four were pink climbing sports. I don't know how one would distinguish one from the other. – Cass

It is hard. In Western Australia a lady called Meg Flynn gave Maurice Daw (both deceased now) budwood of a rose. Maurice was a member of the Rose Society of W.A. and when Maurice exhibited the rose, the Society considered the rose may be ‘August Noack’. From somewhere I picked up on a reference which said ‘August Noack’ deepens in hot weather but I now can’t find that reference !@! All I can find is the 1936 Hazlewood reference which said “sometimes quite dark”. In my cooler climate I haven’t really seen the rose deepen that much, but the nursery owner who gave it to me, said when she saw it here “What have you done to it? It was red in Perth”. I think it does deepen a bit, as the February 25 picture seems to be slightly darker. But I might have my rose-coloured glasses on. What do you think Margaret? Did your plant (from my rose) deepen in this last hot summer for you?

My plant was transferred to Renmark, for the Early HT collection, last winter. David's happy that it's either Cl Columbia or a sport - I've forgotten the name he mentioned, but it wasn't August Noack. It did become darker at times in my garden, but I wouldn't have called it red. I'll check it next month.

I think he said Briarcliff (David and his 100kph phonecalls).

1936 Hazelwood Bros. Ltd., Epping. (& 1932)
p65. August Noack. (HT) (Kordes, 1928). F3. In every respect a real unaltered Columbia, except colour, which is cerise. It is considered to be the best of three red sports of this variety, thus superseding Europa and F. Louise Lindecke.
P54. ….As in Mme. Butterfly there are many sports of Columbia of somewhat similar appearance. August Noack, Europa, and Frau Luise Lindecke are sometimes quite dark, almost a light red, Lucinda, Columbia Supreme, New Columbia, Scott’s Columbia, Rose Hill, Silver Columbia and J. K. B. Roos vary slightly from the original, but in our testing, Briarcliff appears to be more free from the cripped flower tendency than the parent.
