Charles Quest-Ritson.  England v Germany: the Wichurana Ramblers.
Buttermere is a beautiful late-flowering Wichurana, with very double, medium-sized (6 cm) flowers in pendulous clusters on strong upright stems - 5-15 in a cluster. The flowers, open buff-coloured, and hold the colour almost to the end, when they turn to cream and white: the inner petals are always darker and richer, so there is a nice contrast between the apricot heart, which is often quartered and quilled, and the paler outer petals. The flowers have a good scent, a mixture of musk and sweetness.
