General Allard, Jean-Francois Allard (1785-1839), French soldier and adventurer. From 1822 he served the Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the Punjab, India till his death in 1839. He is buried in Lahore.

Very fragrant. Flowers are about 2 1/4 inches in diameter. Has been found as a survives at old sites in California. Forms an arching shrub to 4 feet or cane on cane into a semiclimber. Produces hips.
