Bred by Michele Malandrone (Italy, before 1955).
Introduced in United States by Jackson & Perkins Co. (Newark, NY) in 1955 as 'Gladiator'.

Climber, Large-Flowered Climber.  
Bloom:
Rose-red, ages to deep pink .  Moderate, tea fragrance.  35 petals.  Average diameter 4.75".  Very large, full (26-40 petals), borne mostly solitary, in small clusters, high-centered to cupped bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Medium, ovoid buds.  
Habit:
Tall, climbing.  Medium, dark green, leathery foliage.  5 to 7 leaflets.  

Height: 10' to 12' (305 to 365cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Can be used for cut flower, garden or pillar.
