Dr. A. S. Thomas. A Victorian Summary
Lal (two plants, one year) is not a new rose in England where it is very highly regarded. In colour it closely resembles Mrs. Henry Morse, but the growth is stronger, there seems to be better resistance to mildew and the flower is larger though not so firm. It has been introduced here before but was lost in some way. Well worth watching.

Lal was another pink Rose making great play alongside this garden walk. These plants were an object lesson in growth and vigour, and the scores of well-formed shapely blooms which mingled so pleasantly with the foliage made me long for an equally lovely bed in my garden at home. Often I think that not enough use has been made of Lal since it was sent out a few years before the war. It is a superb Rose, but for some reason has been passed over by many gardeners.

Bush Roses
Lal (Hybrid Tea)... Deep salmon pink, suffused yellow. A fine bold flower of beautiful elongated form. The growth is vigorous, with splendid dark healthy green foliage. In our opinion, one of the finest pink Roses, combining beauty of form, fragrance and good growth. Recommended. Very highly perfumed. Introduced 1933.
