Il est une autre rose de Chambard qui porta le prestige de la Rose de France plus haul encore. C'est de Governor Al. Smith dont je veux parler. Al. Smith était le Gouverneur de l'Etal de New-York. Candidat aux dernières élections présidentielles des Etats-Unis, Al Smith était encore Président du Conseil d'AdminisIration du plus grand building du Monde. Uno rose française fut choisie, parmi lanl d'autres étrangères, pour commémorer le nom de cette haute personnalité. La présentation de la rose eut lieu dans une cérémonie officielle qui se déroulait dans son bureau personnel, au 88^e étage de son building fameux, Une grosse publicité s'empara alors; de la rose et ce fut un succès considérable.

Already the U.S. Patent Office has granted more than two hundred plant patents. A number of the patented plants are on the market. There is the "Gov. Alfred E. Smith Rose", invented by Marguerite Denoyel, of France. Plant patent No. 62 protects this rose. There is no brown derby on it.

Governor Alfred E. Smith. (Veuve Denoyel, 1933) and 'Leonard Barron' (Nicolas, 1931) appear to be very much alike. Buds are short, opening into large flowers which fade to pale pink. The  plants have a Pernetiana appearance and the petals number from eighty upwards.

Splendid bud on rigid stem, the colour being dark rosy salmon, opening to a very large, full, flower, of perfect form. The open flower is coral salmon passing to brilliant rosy carmine. Highly perfumed. 4/- each.
Pernetiana. Short bud, confused centre. 80 petals.

CHAMBARD). — Rosier de grande vigueur à rameaux droits, légèrement divergents, peu épineux, feuillage large, vert foncé, résistant à toutes maladies. Splendide bouton ovoïde porté par un fort pédoncule, rose saumon foncé, fleur extra-grands, bien double, s'épanouissant avec facilité, corail saumon, passant, au rose carmin brillant. Odorante. De premier mérite pour massif et fleur coupée 
Issu de semis de F. Bohé et semis inédits.

Un comité de rosiéristes de New-York, ayant à choisir une rose nouvelle pour la dédier au Gouverneur de l’Etat de New-York a porté son choix sur un semis, de Mme Denoyel. Cette rose qui portera le nom de Gouverneur Alfred E. Smith sera multipliée en grand dans les roseraies américaines et son succès est assuré.
