Some All-Canadian Roses
by Fred Blakeney, Victoria, B.C.
The John H. Dunlop & Son Nursery of Toronto has originated six Hybrid Tea Roses, and were probably the first nursery to put Canadian-originated roses on the market. At least, they were the first recorded. Their first introduction was a tea rose named "White Bougère" in 1898. Then followed five Hybrid Teas: "Mrs. Henry Winnett" (1917), "Frank Dunlop" (1920), "Canadian Jubilee" (1927), "Phantasy" (1927), "Red Beauty" (1929). Some of these roses may still be around. Mr. Dunlop died in 1930.

Everblooming Roses
The so-called Everblooming Roses include the Hybrid Tea and Pernetiana groups. They do not bloom all the time, but if kept healthy and growing steadily, one crop of flowers succeeds another at brief intervals.
Frank W. Dunlop. Hybrid Tea. (J. H. Dunlop, 1919.) Very large buds and flowers of deep, brilliant rose-pink; very double and highly perfumed. Plant grows tall, with sparse foliage, and blooms freely.
Introduced as a florists’ greenhouse variety, has surprised us by being a good garden variety. Its chief fault is the lack of any real distinctiveness in the shape of the flowers. They are much like Columbia, Premier and other old warhorses of that type.
