Bloom:
Light pink, green center. Average diameter 3". Medium, borne mostly solitary, in small clusters, button-eye, high-centered bloom form. Once-blooming spring or summer. Long, pointed buds.
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles, well-branched. 5 leaflets.
Height: up to 2' (up to 60cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
The date of Anne Boleyn's birth is not known for sure. According to some sources, it could have been as early as 1500 or 1501. Other sources say 1508 or 1509. What is known is that King Henry VIII became interested in Anne while he was still married to Catherine. When Anne became pregnant, she and Henry were secretly married, sometime around St. Paul's Day (25 January) 1533 and Henry's marriage to Catherine ended in May. On 1 June, Anne Boleyn was crowned Queen of England. On 7 September, her daughter, Princess Elizabeth was born. Times being what they were, Anne was under a great deal of pressure to produce a male heir. Two pregnancies followed, but the child was either miscarried or stillborn. In the meantime, her husband was taking a shine to one of Anne's ladies-in-waiting, Jane Seymour. Anne's days were numbered. On 2 May 1536, she was arrested and charged with adultery, incest, and plotting to murder the king -- charges which she denied. She was executed 19 May and buried in an unmarked grave in the Chapel of St. Peter ad Vincula. During renovation of the chapel under Queen Victoria's reign, Anne's final resting place was identified and so marked.
