Bred by Louis-Xavier Granger (France, before 1863).
Introduced in France by Louis Lévêque & Fils in 1863 as 'Louis van Houtte'.
Introduced in Australia by Thomas Lang in 1866 as 'Louis van Houtte'.
Class:
Hybrid Perpetual.  
Bloom:
Carmine-pink, dark red shading, red highlights, lighter reverse.  Moderate fragrance.  Large, double (17-25 petals) bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Upright, well-branched.  Dense foliage.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).

Notes:
Louis Van Houtte was born at Ypres 29 June 1810 and died at Ghent 9 May 1876. Well-known Belgian horticulturalist... his very large company propagated many plants. He published Flore des Serres et Jardins de l'Europe, a veritable plant museum including over 2,000 colored plates... the prince of 19th Century horticulture.
