Any chance this was hybridized by Hugh senior? I came across the following reference - a transcription of a talk given by senior in 1900. It was revised for publication in 1904.

i think the best way of growing this rose (unless you want to peg it) is to use it as a climber, for after the first flush it produces very long shoots (up to 180 cm) with a few flowers on top of them. the scent is very good, but, personally, i´m not so fond of the colour (my partner uses the term "lipstick-coloured").

the number of petals can vary a lot. in hot weather it often produces flowers that are almost semi-double.
